I am excited to finally announce the alpha release of EspressoReader. EspressoReader, in its current incarnation, is a desktop app for Google Reader. However the goal is to create an application for managing all the information streams you read on a daily basis, and providing user interfaces that help sifting through all of that. For example, this release includes a PhotoView that lays out all the images in different feeds one below the other, which works out really well if you are subscribed to image heavy feeds like web comics.

Update: I am removing the link to the installer as more and more people keep having a broken experience with version 1. Please get on the alpha list for version 2 at EspressoReader.com. The new system should be a lot more stable since it uses a different authentication system that seems to be working much better.

The UI opened but without any google news after setup my google account there.

I’m excited about this app but I’m afraid it doesn’t work for me. Upon first launch, it asked me to log in. After login nothing seemed to happen so I closed and re-opened the application. At that point, I get the empty frames with no feeds in them.

I can’t see the settings button. I’m in windows runing last version of espressoreader and also the latest air release. I see status online, but I recognice form the video of refreshingapps.com that the button to settings is missing in right bottom corner.

Can you please send me a screenshot if you can upload it somewhere on the web. Also, try clicking on the “tweet” link on the top of the third column. That should bring up the settings window anyway (if the twitter username and password are not supplied)

I already entered in the twitter section, and signed up to mi twitter acount, neverteless it didn’t show anything about login acount to google reader.

How do I configure my google reader account?
I can launch the app but it stays blank.
No configure buttom found.
Where do I put my google reader username?
I cant use the app.

These are just the files…how do I install on AdobeAir? It’s not a user-friendly installer like most AdobeAir apps.

Same problem – can’t see any feeds after initial Google login. Tried to uninstall and reinstall but same thing.

Any word on this? I have been excited about the prospect of this app as well, and no luck. Blank. I use Google Apps, I don’t know if that makes any difference, but I can’t seem to configure it anywhere…

Sorry everyone. Until recently I hadnt even gotten this to replicate for any machines I could get access to. However thats started happening on one new machine I just installed safari4 on. I’ll try to see if I can fix this with a build soon.
I am sorry for this app not working as I hoped. The problem has been using Air’s handling of http cookies. Working on a fix soon

Are there keyboard shortcuts for the various: next/ previous feed and next/ previous item and to open an item in browser? If not that would be very nice!

It doesn’t show the dates that the feeds were made. I can see all my feeds but one such feed a follow its crucial to know the date and time it was posted. Is there a way to turn it on. Its not the original feed either because Google reader shows date and time.

I just installed and I can’t see a settings button either. Clicking “Tweet” only gives me settings for twitter. It has not asked me anywhere for my google login. The app is useless right now for me. 😦
